The second annual “Little Miss Red, White & Blue” pageant will be held this Friday, June 21, at Forest Capital Hall, starting at 6 p.m.

    Admission is $5.

Some 19 young ladies will compete in two age categories (6-8 years old and 9-12 years old).

Contestants who are not named to the respective courts will be recognized as “Little Miss Firecrackers” and will join the title winners at the downtown 4th of July celebration planned at Rosehead Park. (Please see related article below.)

National Guard veteran Daryll Gunter will serve as emcee for the pageant and extends a special invitation to local veterans to attend the event.

“Admission will be free for all veterans, and there will be special reserved seating for them,” he said.

Contestants will introduce themselves during a patriotic opening number.

Army First Lt. Tyre Maddox will greet contestants when they return to the stage for the evening gown competition, and will ask, “Why do you love America?”

Last year’s winners, Lauralai Brannen (9-12 age division) and Autumn Meacham (6-8 age division) will help crown the 2019 queens.

The pageant is being sponsored by the Perry-Taylor County Chamber of Commerce, Zeigler’s Florist and the Taylor County Tourism Development Council.

Chamber Director Dawn Taylor and Administrative Assistant Rachel Russell are serving a co-chairs of the event.

Concessions will be provided by volunteers with the Taylor County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
