Review: The power of ‘42’ comes alive on DVD and Blu-ray

    Posted on July 19, 2013

2013-07-19-42-Blu-ray-coverYou don’t have to be a baseball fan, or even a sports enthusiast at all, to know names like Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb or Jackie Robinson.

The latter was the focus of this spring’s “42,” which was released this week on DVD and Blu-ray.

The story of Jackie Robinson is one that deserves to be told on the big screen, and deserves to be told as well as it is in “42.” It’s also one that deserves to be seen, by people of all races, both to see how far we’ve come as well as to see how far we have to go, and to celebrate those who helped us get this far.

The film is rated PG-13 for thematic elements including language.

The DVD and Blu-ray release do not add a large amount of extras, with the DVD including the feature, “Stepping into History,” while the Blu-ray adds two more, “Full-Contact Baseball” and “The Legacy of the Number 42.”
