Review: Big robots + big monster = huge fun in ‘Pacific Rim’

    Posted on July 19, 2013

2013-07-19-Pacific-Rim-movie-posterBut what if somebody set out to make a good movie about giant robots and it was actually well written, featuring compelling characters, and the acting wasn’t half-bad either? And what if instead of having the robots fight each other, they had them fighting even bigger Godzilla-like monsters?

Excited yet? If not, you might as well skip director Guillermo Del Toro’s action adventure film, “Pacific Rim.” But you if are getting little robotic stars in your eyes, strap in and enjoy the ride Del Toro and company have to offer.

Featuring great special effects and heart-pounding action sequences, “Pacific Rim” is visually about as good as we can expect from a live-action film depicting fisticuffs between robots and monsters, each standing thirty-or-so stories tall. Frankly, this kind of movie is why big screens were invented.

The film is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense sci-fi action and violence throughout, and brief language.
