Sheriff seeks new policy on First Amendment ‘auditors’

    Posted on July 12, 2019

In the wake of a tense encounter between members of the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) and a self-described “First Amendment auditor” attempting to video inside the Taylor County Courthouse on June 26, Sheriff Wayne Padgett has asked the Taylor County Commission to consider a temporary memorandum on how to handle such situations in the future until a permanent policy can be set.

The June 26 incident, which included Padgett, Dep. Earl Padgett and Capt. Buddy Lee, was recorded and posted onto YouTube by William E. Holliday Jr. of Mayo, known as “Poor Dirt Farmer” online.
