In response to requests from school board members, the Taylor County School District will soon consider adopting a “local preference” policy to give local companies a chance to match a bid for goods or services if their bid is within a certain percentage of the lowest out-of-town bidder.
Prompted by complaints from a local fuel supplier over the last several years, the issue has been discussed at length during two recent school board meetings after an out-of-town company narrowly beat out Ware Oil & Supply for a contract to provide diesel fuel for district school buses.
