Steinhatchee’s “Jogging for Jugs” event is back and bigger than ever!
The annual breast cancer awareness event will resume in Steinhatchee on Saturday, Oct. 19, with the help of the American Legion Axillary Unit 291.
The 5K run/walk will feature pink pancakes for the participants, as well as the public, to dine on after the race. The event will also include a wide variety of entertainment.
A large assortment of fun-filled activities have been tentatively scheduled including, a live band and deejay, golf cart poker run, afternoon fish fry, corn hole tournament, drawings to win prizes and more.
Jogging for Jugs is a non-profit organization, and the majority of net proceeds from any of their events will be sent to the American Cancer Society for research.
“We also intend to hold 30 to 40 percent of the net proceeds locally so that we might be able to help any cancer patient in our area that is currently under treatment with some of their expenses while fighting this disease. For example, gas cards, utility bills, grocery gift cards, etc.,” Jogging for Jugs organizer Ursula Miller said.
“Our mission through product sales/donations, 5K run-walk events, corporate sponsors and contributions from the public help us to support our #FINDACURE program via “Jogging For Jugs,” a registered 501(c) 3,” the Jogging for Jugs Facebook event page reads.
The Jogging for Jugs event was last held in 2016, but went dormant after Hurricane Hermine.
“The last event prior to Hurricane Hermine grossed more than $10,000 via race participants, t-shirt sales, sponsors and so much more! Our goal for 2019 is to exceed this amount and grow this event annually to help fight all cancer and to celebrate survivors, support those making the fight of their life and, lastly, to honor those who have lost the battle to this horrible disease,” Miller continued.
