    Gracie G. “Trudy” Carlton

    Gracie G. “Trudy” Carlton, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Perry on Oct. 8, 2019, surrounded by her children and her son-in-law.

    Trudy was born on March 18, 1932, in Sheridan, Ark., to James David Cash and Mary Anna Harper Cash. She had made her home in Perry since 1952 when she married Perry A. “Slick” Carlton. Together, they had three children.

    Trudy was of the Church of God faith. She was one of the earliest members of the Perry First Church of God and served in various roles, including Sunday School teacher, youth leader and church treasurer. Her heart’s desire was to serve her Lord, and she did that by loving and serving others.

    Trudy worked for the Taylor County School Board as a school bus driver, retiring in 1994 after 23 years of service.

    Trudy was preceded in death by: her husband of 66 years, Perry A. “Slick” Carlton; her daughter, Linda Wonell Miller; two grandsons, Colby Young and Brock Carlton; her parents, James David “JD” and Mary Anna Cash; and 17 siblings and half-siblings.

    Trudy is survived by: her son, Dwaine Carlton of Perry; her daughter, Kim Diez (Jesus) of Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Perry First Church of God with Pastor Mike Burke officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterward in Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends today (Friday) from 6-8 p.m. at Perry First Church of God.
