I’ve been a fan of writer/director Kevin Smith since his first film, 1994’s “Clerks,” which he self-financed with credit cards and shot at night at the convenience store he was working in at the time. In that film, he also introduced the world to the hetero-life-mate stoners Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith).
Years before the MCU, Smith created his own interconnected film universe — the View Askewniverse — with the comedies “Mallrats,” “Chasing Amy,” “Dogma,” “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” and “Clerks II.” The movies were crude, oftentimes dumb and almost always funny. Since then, he has directed other movies such as “Cop Out,” “Red State” and “Tusk.”
Now, he returns to the View Askewniverse with “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.” I don’t often say this in reviews, but if you’re not a fan of Smith’s previous movies or haven’t seen them, there is absolutely no reason to see this one. This is a movie made for his fans, and as one, I enjoyed it quite a bit.
