The first movie of 2020 I saw was “Dolittle,” based on the classic tale of a doctor who can speak to animals, starring Robert Downey Jr. in the title role, his first non-MCU film since “The Judge.” Because I was late seeing this movie due to the flu, I couldn’t avoid the waves of bad press that met the film’s release.
Having now seen it, I would say it is not as bad as many are making it out to be, but it still isn’t a very good movie, filled with inconsistent acting and a story that is never as interesting as the film thinks it is.
“Dolittle” commits a cardinal sin right off the bat, giving us a prologue recounting Dr. Dolittle’s world adventures with his wife that are more interesting than anything we get later.
