He was born on October 3, 1934 in Scanlon (Perry), FL to Jim Lee Young and Ellen Amanda Young. Kenneth lived in rural Perry nearly his entire life, and often told his children and grandchildren stories of old Florida living before water and electricity were completely run to his home in the 1950’s.

His favorite pastimes were hunting deer and turkey, fishing, sitting in his rocking chair on the front porch. He worked for the Florida State Road Department for nine years, and then was a millwright for 28 years.

He served the US Navy in the Korean War for four years.

He was a member of New Home Baptist Church in Perry for 70 years and served as a Sunday school teacher for 40 years. He also completed 27 mission trips, volunteered with Vacation Bible School, served as a Sunday school director and on numerous committees. Kenneth was an honorary member of the historic Oakland Baptist Church in Perry.

A special thank you to the staff at Clyde E. Lassen State Veteran’s Nursing Home, St. Augustine, and the Acosta-Rua Center for Caring Community Hospice, Jacksonville, for their loving care and support during his final days.

A viewing will be on February 5, at 1 p.m. at New Home Baptist Church, Perry, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. with Bro. Danny Lundy and Bro Jeff Stading officiating. Kenneth will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery with military Honors, in Perry. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
