Students excited to see teachers, get lunch and free books.

While continuing to transition to a “distance learning” system due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Taylor County School District is also looking to “feed” students “mind, body and soul” by providing free meals and free books.

On Thursday, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Danny Glover Jr. announced the district would continue to provide “drive-thru” lunch and breakfast services now through April 15. (The service opened this week, Tuesday through Thursday, and served 950 meals.)

Also, thanks to a “Read With Me” grant from the Panhandle Area Education Consortium (PAEC), free books were given to students when they drove through the lunch pick-up line.

During the distribution Thursday, students eagerly waved to teachers and administrators as they were handed bagged meals through rolled down windows.

The meal distribution will continue Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Taylor County Elementary School.

Students must be present to receive lunch. (Distributions will not be held on Good Friday or Easter Monday.)

The Boys & Girls Club is providing lunches for students in Steinhatchee.
