This year, art students at Taylor County High School (TCHS) were only able to participate in one area contest, the North Florida State Fair Art Competition.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the North Florida College Spring Art Festival and the annual Taylor County Public Library High School Art Show were canceled.
Then, school abruptly ended at the beginning of the fourth nine weeks.
“For most art students, this is their most enjoyable time. They now have mastered most of the important concepts and get to apply what they have learned to produce unique works of art. This is also where most of our art comes from for next year’s competitions,” TCHS Art Instructor Jeff Byers said.
He also reminded students they could submit two-dimensional artwork for the Congressional Art Competition to Congressmen Neal Dunn by May 25. (Please see related below.)
Looking to showcase local students’ work, Byers has created a virtual art show for exhibiting art this year.
The show is available online at https://www. artsteps.com/view/5eaf255 ef9d6356feee1ee56/5.
“You will see student artwork and activities. You may walk through at your pleasure or take a guided tour. Remember, art does count and makes a difference in our cities, communities, states and the world. It impacts our lives, senses, our brains and our emotions when we encounter it in our lives,” Byers said.
