    Drive-thru COVID-19 testing in Perry May 14

    Posted on May 13, 2020

The Department of Health Taylor (DOH-Taylor) officials will be offering free drive-thru COVID-19 testing to the community in Perry and Steinhatchee this week.

Testing will be available to asymptomatic people – those who are experiencing no symptoms – at the DOH-Taylor office tomorrow (Thursday) from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at 1215 N. Peacock Avenue in Perry.

An additional drive-thru testing site will be set up at the Steinhatchee School on Monday, May 18 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Upon arrival, individuals will be routed to the drive-thru area behind the gymnasium via Central Avenue. The school is located at 1209 1st Avenue SE in Steinhatchee.

Those who wish to be tested must remain in their vehicle with their window rolled down, through which a healthcare professional will administer a nasopharyngeal swab – or a nasal swab – which collects a sample from the back of the nose and throat.

No signs or symptoms of the virus are needed to be tested, nor is an appointment or doctor’s referral required. However, individuals are encouraged to pre-register by calling (850) 584-5087.

Those who wish to be tested must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid ID.

The testing will continue at the DOH-Taylor office each Thursday through the month of May. Additional dates and testing locations are to be determined.

To date, Taylor County has had three positive coronavirus cases. A 29-year-old female, a 47-year-old female and a 60-year old female. None of the cases have been hospitalized.

According to figures released by the DOH at 11 a.m. Tuesday, 340 people in Taylor County had been tested for coronavirus. There were zero pending tests as of press time Tuesday.
