The price tag of the upcoming resurfacing project on Houck Road jumped an additional $17,000 after it was determined that the county will have to pay to relocate as many as five gopher tortoises from the site.
According to County Engineer Kenneth Dudley, a March 9 survey of the Houck Road right-of-way determined there are seven gopher tortoise burrows — two of which are inactive.
