Carrol Alan Dees, age 73, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at the Advent Christian Village, Good Samaritan Center, in Live Oak.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1946, to Mildred “Polly” Murphy Jenkins and the late Carrie Dees, in Perry.

He graduated from Taylor County High School in the Class of 1965 and remained friends with many classmates until his passing. A Vietnam veteran, he proudly served in the US Air Force from 1965-1969 as an Ordinance Specialist. He and his family then moved to Lake City, where he graduated from Lake City Community College with a degree in landscaping and relocated to Atlanta.

Carrol returned to Perry in the mid-90’s and served with the Florida Department of Corrections until his retirement in 2009.

Carrol was adored by his sisters, who affectionately nicknamed him “Bubba.” He was a strong Christian, and a true southern gentleman. Due to his tall stature (6’4”), he never successfully, managed to enter a room unnoticed. As a result, he developed a lifelong habit of treating others with grace, and great kindness, in efforts to compensate for his imposing presence. Carrol always had a “green thumb”, with a wide knowledge of native Florida trees and grasses. He also was an avid golfer and also enjoyed fishing in the Gulf. Carrol was a member of First Baptist Church in Perry for many years.

Carrol is survived by: his mother, Mildred “Polly” Murphy Jenkins of Perry; his sisters, Jeannie (Connie Ray) Mathis of Steinhatchee and Sheila Gregg (Jim Davids) of Perry; his children, Travis Dees of Gainesville and Amanda (Darek) Burns of Charlotte, N.C.; and his uncles, Randolph “Randy” Murphy of Perry and Heburn “Sonny” Murphy of Perry and St. Petersburg; as well as a host of cousins, nieces and a nephew.

He was the maternal grandson of the late Riley and Ethel Murphy of Perry.

He was loved and supported by the town of Perry and the residents of Taylor County his whole life.

Additional thanks and gratitude to the doctors, nurses, staff and the entire team at Advent Christian Village, Good Samaritan Center in Live Oak for their care and compassion for many years now. The love and care you provided never went unnoticed.

Carrol wished to be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Gulf of Mexico, at which time, due to Covid 19, family will have a small memorial service. Any further plans will be posted online for family and friends.
