A few weeks ago, I wrote about when we can expect movie theaters to re-open, or at least when the theater companies are hoping to re-open. This time, I want to talk about the idea that the coronavirus (COVID-19) will spell the end of movie theaters, or at least forever shift how people receive and consume movies.
“Tenet” is Still the Pace Film
But first, a quick update on movie theaters’ plans to re-open. All signs continue to point to Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet,” currently set for a July 17 release, as the first film movie-goers will get a chance to see. “Unhinged,” a movie starring Russell Crowe, is actually the first new release on the calendar, set for Wednesday, July 1. However, I don’t see the movie as big enough to entice the major chains to open their doors early.
