The Florida Forest Service (FFS), in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, is hosting a Smokey Bear bumper sticker contest that contains a wildfire prevention message dealing with human-caused wildfires.
Local youth artists are invited to participate in the nationwide contest, which runs through Sept. 30.
“The goal is to educate about the importance of wildfire prevention and protecting our forest,” Taylor County’s FFS Travis Pike said.
Submissions from Taylor, Madison, Lafayette and Dixie counties can be e-mailed (BumperStickerPerry@ fdacs.gov), mailed or dropped off at 618 Plantation Road, Perry, FL 32348. The contest is divided into three age categories: 10 and under, 11-18 and 19 and up.
All submissions become property of the FFS, United States Forest Service and the ad council. Each entry needs to be 11.5” x 3” and must contain a wildfire prevention message due to human-caused fires.
For entry forms, contact Pike at (850) 491-0127 or e-mail Travis.Pike@ FDACS.Gov.
The best two entries from each age group submitted to the local fire service office will be selected to be reviewed at the state level.
The winning entries will be uploaded to Facebook and Twitter for the public to vote on their favorites from each age category.
The winning entries will receive Smokey Bear merchandise, and their artwork will be turned into a bumper sticker.
The top 90 submissions will be featured in the Florida Forest Service calendar with a customized message about wildfire prevention.
