Many local families were in shock this week as 150 Georgia-Pacific (GP) Foley Cellulose mill employees learned they had been laid off or had their positions eliminated as part of a decision to “temporarily idle” two of the mill’s three production lines starting Thursday, July 2.
Most, if not all, of the 150 employees affected had been notified as of press time Tuesday, according to GP Public Affairs Manager Scott Mixon.
