Steinhatchee fireworks are still on for July 4

    Posted on July 3, 2020

Unlike most Fourth of July celebrations across the Big Bend, Steinhatchee’s annual fireworks display will happen this year, although organizers are urging everyone to take precautions due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

“This year, due to COVID-19, we will not have concessions or the annual mullet toss at the community center,” organizers said. “Please do not congregate there. We ask that you do your part to stay safe, stay six feet apart, and enjoy.

“The bridge will not close. Fireworks will be shot from a barge in the wide part of the river, west of the bridge. The shells will go over 400 feet in the air and should be visible from anywhere in town, from either side of the river.”

According to the Steinhatchee River Chamber of Commerce, this year’s display will be presented by Kynex Explosives.

The annual fireworks display in Perry at Rosehead Park has been canceled due to the outbreak. Other annual Fourth of July events canceled include those in Cedar Key, Madison, Sopchoppy and Tallahassee.

Fireworks will still be held in Branford and Live Oak.
