Rapid response tests for COVID-19 are not available through the local health department, and residents seeking a rapid test must go through their primary doctor.
“Some of the primary care doctors here have rapid response tests and administer them if a patient meets certain criteria,” Public Information Officer Martine Young with the Florida Department of Health in Taylor County (DOH) said.
She added that a private walk-in clinic in Tallahassee (Patients First) offers rapid tests, and additional testing is available at FAMU’s Bragg Stadium, also in Tallahassee.
That site, which is open Monday through Saturday, offers rapid antibody testing and COVID-19 tests (with 48-hour results). Testing at the FAMU site is free of charge and is open to the public.
Free COVID tests are also offered every Tuesday and Thursday by appointment at the health department here.
“This week, we averaged 30-40 tests each day,” Young said.
To schedule an appointment, contact the health department at (850) 584-5087.
