Billie Sue Hicks, 85, passed away on Oct. 23, 2020 in Mayo.
Sue was born March 2, 1935, in Perry to Ballard C. Brown and Shellie Mae Johnson Brown.
Mrs. Hicks was a member of First Baptist Church of Perry. She founded and operated The Bookmart for more than 20 years.
Sue enrolled at the Vanderbilt School of Arts, and soon became an amazing artist. She was a former president of the Art Guild in Nashville, and brought her talents back to Perry where she taught others how to paint in her home.
She was a member of the Perry Woman’s Club, Perry Elks Lodge and Perry Garden Club, and was named “Woman of the Year” in Perry. She was very active with the Florida Forest Festival and Miss Florida Forest Festival pageants.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, Ballard and Shellie Mae Brown, and her brother, B.C. Brown.
Mrs. Hicks is survived by: her husband of 34 years, Marshall Hicks; stepchildren, Marsha (Glenn) Taylor and Andrea (Billy) Williamson; special nieces, Debbie Brown and Denise (Danny) Griner; nephew, Keith (Cheryl) Parker; loving friends and caregivers, Liz Whetsel, Carrie Osteen and Tracy Haithcock; and grandchildren, Drew Taylor, Sara Vinson, Megan Williamson, Alisha Williamson, Toni Williamson, Caleb Griner and Kacie Griner; as well as many other great-grandchildren and loving friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Danny Lundy officiating. Interment services followed afterward in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hearts for Hometown Dogs of Perry.
