Taylor County’s total number of positive coronavirus cases climbed to 1,660 — an increase of 46 in the 10 days since Nov. 23 — and one person who previously tested positive has died, bringing the area’s total number of COVID-related deaths to 21.
Additionally, four people have been hospitalized since Nov. 23.
However, Taylor County’s weekly infection rate has dropped to 6.87 percent, falling more than three percent below the Department of Health’s (DOH) target of 10 percent.
The steady increase in local numbers comes as Florida hit one million positive coronavirus cases since the pandemic began in early 2020.
On Dec. 2, Florida had reported a total of 1,018,160 positive coronavirus cases.
Similar to Taylor County, the state’s weekly infection rate is now 7.48 percent — below the DOH’s target of 10 percent.
The state has also logged 55,567 resident hospitalizations and 18,776 deaths since COVID-19 tracking began earlier this year.
According to Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, which has a reported 95 percent success rate, will be distributed to hospitals and nursing homes in December and January. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is also scheduled to discuss the Moderna vaccine, which has a 94 percent success rate, on Dec. 17.
