    Roy Otis ‘Roddy’ Dennis Jr.

    On Dec. 22, 2020, Roy Otis Dennis Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 82.

    Roy “Roddy” was born on Jan. 2,1938, in Foley. His parents were Roy O. Dennis Sr.  and Annie Mae Dennis.

    Roy graduated from Taylor County High School in 1955, and served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

    He attended Florida State University and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He completed a bachelor’s degree in office management.

    At college he met and married his wife, Sherry, and they were happily married 59 years. They had two children.

    Roy worked in management for Chevron Oil Company for 25 years, retiring at the age of 55.

    He was an avid bass fisherman his entire life and retired to Ocala for the fishing lakes. He loved to fish with his friends and family.

    He loved the mountains in North Carolina and collecting shells on the beaches of Sanibel Island. He enjoyed making boiled peanuts, growing tomatoes and playing cards and dominoes around the kitchen table.

    If you ever met or knew Roy, you were always welcomed with a heartfelt greeting and a warm smile.

    Roy was preceded in death by his father and mother.

    He is survived by: his wife, Sherry; his children, Lyn and Jeff; his sister; Ina; his grandchildren Jeffery, Marina, Holly and Thomas; great-grandchild, Ava; niece, Robin; and nephew, Scooter.

    He will be greatly missed.
