    Local cases jump by 94

    Taylor County’s positive coronavirus cases increased by 94 in just seven days as of press time Thursday, bringing the county’s total for the year to 1,948 cases.

    According to the Department of Health (DOH) dashboard, the latest update also included three additional hospitalizations.

    The spike in cases occurred the same week that DOH-Taylor announced the two-part Moderna COVID-19 vaccine would be available to individuals who are 65 years or older beginning Tuesday, Jan. 5.

    To qualify for a vaccine during this time, members of the general community at large must meet the following criteria:

    • Must be at least 65 years of age,

    • Must not be currently experiencing COVID-19 symptoms,

    • Must not be currently under quarantine or have any known exposure to COVID-19 within the last 14 days,

    • Must not have a history of anaphylaxis,

    • Must be available to receive the follow-up injection 28 days after the first injection.
