Master Gardeners will host tree giveaway Jan. 15 at Rosehead Park

    Posted on January 13, 2021

Taylor County Master Gardener volunteers will hold their annual tree giveaway to commemorate Florida’s Arbor Day celebration this Friday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Grand Pavilion at Rosehead Park (adjacent to the splash pad).

“All native tree seedlings that thrive in our area have been selected,” said Lisa Strange, Taylor County’s agricultural and natural resource agent.

In 1970, President, Richard Nixon proclaimed the last Friday in April as National Arbor Day, and since, each state designated their own special day in recognition of Arbor Day. Florida celebrates the third Friday in January.

“Trees have many functions in the landscape; they provide shade, attract wildlife, add color and texture, increase property values and reduce energy cost. Additionally, trees reduce flooding, remove pollutants from the air we breathe and provide beauty for us to enjoy,” Strange said.

“So come on down on Friday, get your free tree seedlings and wear your mask, while keeping a safe distance from others please.”
