Taylor County continues to report upwards of 100 new coronavirus cases each week. As of press time Thursday, the county had accumulated 2,437 cases — 129 of which were recorded in the last seven days.
While Taylor County’s hospitalization rate held steady at 86 patients (4%), Doctors’ Memorial Hospital (DMH) has obtained additional equipment, supplies, medication and training to ensure the local facility has the ability to treat COVID-19 patients.
“Like many hospitals across the country, the recent surge in COVID-19 cases has put a strain on DMH resources. We are seeing many patients who have tested positive for the virus, and many need hospitalization to treat their symptoms. Many facilities are at capacity and cannot accept transfers, so we know it is critical that we have everything we need to provide safe, quality care to optimize patient outcomes,” interim CEO Lauren Faison-Clark said.
“We have also recently increased our staffing and have made some modifications to our ICU rooms to create a COVID unit just for our patients who are admitted. Our staff are working tirelessly to ensure that our patients receive the best care possible at DMH,” Faison-Clark added.
