The Academy Award nominations were announced this week, and for the first time in 16 years, I haven’t seen any of the Best Picture nominees. Of course, this has been far from a normal year, and as I’ve said multiple times, I just haven’t been in the mood to watch dramatic films with everything going on, instead gravitating to escapist fare.
Speaking of the nominations, in another example of just how unusual this year is when it comes to the Academy Awards, they arrived three weeks after the ceremony would have normally been held. The eligibility window was extended through the end of February to allow more films a chance to be released as theaters began opening again.
This year, the ceremony will be held Sunday, April 24, giving you (and me) just over a month to catch up on the movies if you are interested in doing so.
