    Local grad helping produce nasal swabs for COVID tests

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 5, 2021) Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRCSE) mechanical engineer, Evan Grambling, removes 3D printed nasopharyngeal swab cages from the automated glass bead blaster after a timed blasting cycle. The swab cages are visually inspected for further manual blasting if additional nylon powder needs to be removed.     Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRCSE) recently stepped up to support nationwide COVID-19 containment efforts through the production of nasopharyngeal swabs.

    The nasal swabs are printed batch by batch using the depot’s HP Jet Fusion 4200 3D printer.
