    Posted on March 19, 2021

The City of Perry will likely have to dip into dwindling cash reserves to replace playground equipment at Gerald B. Walker Park (also known as Jerkins Park). located on Warner Avenue. The equipment was recently removed after being deemed unsafe by city staff members, who discovered exposed rusted metal mesh.

Despite facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in unexpected road repair costs associated with a pair of suspected sinkholes, the city council recently voted to move forward with purchasing replacement playground equipment at Jerkins Park.

City staff has been directed to purchase an estimated $36,000 in playground equipment “sooner, rather than later,” by dipping into dwindling cash reserves that will also need to cover the unknown cost of repairing significant sinkhole-related issues that have closed traffic on Center Street and Folsom Street.
