Review: ‘Riddick’ is back in bloody good form

2013-09-13-Riddick-movie-posterFollowing 2000’s “Pitch Black” and 2004’s “Chronicles of Riddick,” we now have “Riddick,” returning our ruthless killing machine back to his roots as he finds himself once again stranded on a deadly planet filled with creatures–and people–out for blood.

As a movie, “Riddick” is a solid action movie with pretty good effects (with one very noticeable exception) for its relatively small budget of $38 million. The acting isn’t great, but it works for the movie. The story is pretty basic. Riddick is trapped on this planet and lures a group of bounty hunters to the surface to give himself an avenue of escape. The cat-and-mouse between him and the hunters reminds us why the character of Riddick has been so fun to watch. And then, when the creatures come out to prove once again Riddick isn’t necessarily the one you should be scared of (the most), the action is fun, bloody and fast-paced.

“Riddick” is rated R for strong violence, language and some sexual content/nudity.
