Have a HEART for hometown dogs

    Posted on June 16, 2021

Hearts for Hometown Dogs (HFHD) is collecting donations for an upcoming online auction planned in July.

If you would like to contribute items for the auction, please contact HFHD volunteer Heather Langford, who can arrange to collect the items.

All proceeds from the auction will benefit the non-profit organization, which facilitates transportation for animals at the Taylor County Animal Shelter to area no-kill shelters and animal rescues.

“We cover costs of testing, vaccines, emergent vet care, skin checks or whatever else may be needed while the animals await rescue. The vaccines and tests alone cost an average of $1,000 per month, and we’ve been covering this since Fall 2020,” Co-Founder Ashley Valentine said.

“Once a rescue is found, the cost doesn’t stop there. We also cover transportation of our animals to rescues all over the state. We fund a rescue van, which requires a monthly payment, insurance and gas. Our monthly van payment is more than $400. You know gas isn’t cheap, and we do transports more than once per week most weeks. We don’t qualify for grants because we aren’t a ‘facility,’ so we survive solely on your generosity and fund-raising,” she said.

To contribute items for the auction or to make a monetary donation, contact the group on their Facebook page (Hearts for Hometown Dogs).
