City considers action on absent members

During a meeting in which two of the five seats at the table were empty, members of the city council signaled for the first time last month they may begin to look at provisions in the city charter requiring attendance at meetings.

During discussion at the city council’s July 27 meeting, City Councilwoman Shirlie Hampton expressed a desire to have a full council present before voting to move ahead with the city possibly purchasing half of a downtown city block for $175,000.
