With local health officials continuing to urge local residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced this week that it has given full approval to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine — which will now officially be known as Comirnaty — for use in individuals 16 years and older.
Until now, the three COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States have been delivered through FDA’s emergency use authorizations (EUAs), and the Pfizer vaccine will continue to be available to those ages 12 to 15 under the existing EUA. The other two vaccines, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, remain available through their separate EUAs.
