Councilman Mike Deming dies

When Councilman Mike Deming needed guidance on a particular issue, he turned to the city charter as the final authority.

During his eight years on the city council, Deming kept his personal copy of the charter close at hand for every city council meeting, and he never hesitated to consult its pages when a question arose.

Second to the charter was the city’s collection of planning and zoning ordinances. A nine-year veteran of the City Planning & Zoning Board (2003-2012), Deming brought a wealth of knowledge he gladly shared with his fellow council members when land development issues arose.

Deming died Tuesday, Sept. 21, following an extended illness. He was 59.
