    Small farms avoid tax hit

    Property Appraiser Shawna Beach recently joined fellow rural North Florida county property appraisers in a fight against a proposed state rule change that would have cost more than 200 local landowners hundreds of dollars on their annual property tax bills.

    Beach traveled to Tallahassee on Friday, Oct. 8, along with fellow property appraisers from Suwannee and Lafayette counties, to successfully lobby the Department of Revenue (DOR) into backing off of enforcing a change in how it interprets and calculates the homestead exemption portion of the “Save our Homes” Act that voters approved in 1994.
