Walter Edwin
Hendry Sr.
Heaven rejoiced
Wednesday evening as
Walter Edwin Hendry Sr.
was welcomed through
the gates by his Lord, his
wife and the many other
loved ones that had gone on
before him.
Edwin, 76, passed away
Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021,
surrounded by his children
and loved ones and has
continued his celebration
ever since.
He was born on July 15,
1945, in Perry and lived his
entire life here.
He started dating his
sweetheart, June, at age 15,
and they snuck off and got
married at age 17.
They raised a family of
four sons, four grandsons,
three great-grandsons and
one great-granddaughter.
He also had a tight-knit
family of brothers, sisters,
nieces and nephews who
visited with him and the
family, and reminisced
about the good times and
brought much comfort in
the last days.
Edwin was a Baptist,
and his favorite place to
attend church was in the
comfort of his recliner in
his room watching hours of
“Through The Bible with
Les Feldick.”
His faith was strong and
steadfast, and the values
he and June had comforted
him and his family in the
promise of a future reunion
where they will never be
parted.
He lived his life devoted
to the Father and to his
family, and nothing ever
stood between him and
them. He also was a public
servant for 12 years, serving
on the county commission.
He worked at Procter
& Gamble and then for
Buckeye Cellulose for
34 years, and was always
known as a man with
integrity, a hard worker and
a good, honest man.
He also instilled his work
ethic and integrity in his
four sons so that they could
uphold the family name
with pride and honor.
Greeting him at the gates
was his wife, Violet June;
his parents, Norman and
Jeanette Hendry; a brother,
Alton Hendry; a sister,
JoAnn Hendry Glascoe;
and many other loved ones
that are joining him in his
celebration.
He is survived by:
four sons, Walt (Phyllis)
Hendry, Chris (Christy)
Hendry and Jared Hendry,
all of Perry and Todd
Hendry in Orlando; four
grandsons, David (Brooke)
of Marianna, Nathan and
C.J. Hendry of Perry and
Caleb Hendry (Victoria)
of Panama City Beach;
and great-grandchildren
Shane Hendry of Perry,
Ian Hendry of Jacksonville
and Aubrey June and
Remington Hendry of
Marianna; along with his
brothers and sister, Aaron
Hendry (Seamelia), Larry
Hendry (Sandy), Dorothy
“Dottie” Hendry of Perry;
and Jerry Hendry (Linda) of
Tallahassee.
Graveside services will
be held Sunday, Dec. 12, at
3 p.m. at Carlton Cemetery
with Brother Chip Parker
presiding.
