Charles Waylon “Cowboy” Barber, 15, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, in Perry.
Waylon was born on Sept. 7, 2006, in Gainesville to Justin Barber and Brandi Bethea Barber.
He was a freshman in high school at Point of Grace Christian School in Perry and a member of the Taylor County High School football team.
Waylon was an avid hunter, fisherman and a true cowboy at heart. He always found a way to take up for the underdog and made it a priority to make people laugh and smile.
He was his dad’s sidekick, his sister’s protector and his mama’s baby. Many people said that he was an old soul. He was a light wherever he went and never met a stranger.
Waylon is survived by: his parents, Justin and Brandi Barber; siblings, Tyler Barber, Harley Barber, and Montana Barber, his best friend; maternal grandparents, Bryan and Kit Bethea and Rodna Williams; paternal grandfather, Jerry Barber; maternal aunts, Kristy (Dan) Anderson and Sabrina Bethea; maternal uncle, Brad (Terry) Bethea; paternal aunt, Shellie Jo (Ron) Fowler; nephew, Lincoln Barber; and a host of cousins and friends who have become family over the years.
Waylon was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Lynda Barber.
The family will receive friends today (Wednesday) from 6-8 p.m. at Crosspoint Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 3:15 p.m. , at Crosspoint Baptist Church with Dan Chaney, Ronnie Flemming, Dwayne Kight, Cody Lord, Randy Maubach and Eddie Pridgeon co-officiating. Interment will follow at Scrubb Creek Cemetery in Old Town.
All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
