Laurie Woods stands in front of the monument that bears her younger brother’s name. Charles L. Broome was just 20 when he was killed in action during the Korean War. His name, along with the names of the 44 other men inscribed on the memorial, was read during Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park.

By the time he was 20, Charles L. Broome had already served two tours in Korea.

He was injured during his first tour, but instead of returning home, he volunteered to go back to the front lines.

He was killed in action not long after.

Broome’s name, along with the names of 44 other men who gave their lives in service to their country, rang out over Veterans Memorial Park during Memorial Day services held Monday, May 30.
