Daniel Morgan Smith, 43, of Perry passed away on May 24, 2023. He was born on Sept. 18, 1979, to Sharon and Jimmy Smith. Morgan, better known as “Momo” to friends and family, was of the Christian faith, an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and a longtime member of New Home Baptist Church, where he gave his life to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a vibrant storyteller and comedian who kept anyone in his presence on their toes with his quick wit and largerthan-life personality, even creating his own dialect at times – Sha’moan! and How-Bou-Chi! Morgan loved adventures, experiencing new places and people, as he never met a stranger and always made people feel at home in his presence. He was athletically gifted, kind, intelligent and hardworking. Morgan was a member of the 1997 Taylor County Bulldogs State Title Football team and will forever be our #10. He loved his family with his entire being, enjoyed daily talks with his mama, Sharon, playing guitars and piddling with his daddy, Jimmy, around the family land and being the all-time QB to his nephews’ front yard football games that brought back memories of games with his own brother, Ryan, on the same patch of grass. Morgan dearly loved travel adventures with his “Sweet Pea,” Sage, as they explored God’s beautiful creation. He was preceded in death by: his maternal grandparents, Bryant and Marguerite Morgan, and his paternal grandparents, James Smith (J.P.) and Hermina Smith. Morgan is survived by: his wife of nearly four years, Sage Smith; his parents, Sharon and Jimmy Smith; brother, Ryan Smith and his wife, Tracey; nephews, Brady and Jordan Smith; sister, Shanna Dodimead and her husband; and nephews, Tucker and Deacon Dodimead. A celebration of Morgan’s life will be held Saturday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Ben Kimmell officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
