    Ralph Delano Poppell

    Ralph Delano Poppell, 76, passed away on June 3, 2023, at his home in Gainesville.

    Mr. Poppell was born Oct. 2, 1946, in Perry to Hughie Pope Poppell and Lula Bell Starling Poppell.

    He was a devout Christian of the Baptist faith. He worked as a superintendent with Charles Perry Construction for 40 years, retiring in 2012.

    He also owned a business with his son, David, Poppell Land Clearing and Site Work, in Gainesville for several years.

    In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening.

    His greatest love was being with his family, particularly his grandchildren to whom he was lovingly known as “Papa.”

    Mr. Poppell was preceded in death by: his first wife, Pat Poppell; his parents, Hughie and Lula Bell Poppell; his brothers, Weldon Poppell, Dan Poppell, Doug Poppell and Warren Poppell; and his sisters, Sybil Archer, Era Bell Williams and Nancy Shaw.

    He is survived by: his wife of 18 years, Mrs. Pansy Poppell; his loving children, David (Brenda) Poppell, Lisa (Scott) Weinstein and Jenny (John) Duniven; his stepchildren, Sean (Alisa) Mountain and April (Dave) String; his grandchildren, Misty Poppell, Bubba Poppell, Nick Weinstein, Matt Weinstein, Hannah Weinstein, Heather Weinstein, Cadence Duniven, Olivia Duniven, Ashby Mountain, Brant Mountain, Zachary String, Dawson String, Sam String and Bode String; siblings, Rachel Sapp, Kenny (Linda) Poppell, Golla McGowan and Mary Ann Moulton; and brother-in-law, John Shaw; as well as the best nieces and nephews an uncle could ever have.

    Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 6, at 2 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Terry Elixon Sr. officiating. The family received friends from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
