‘Tune in’ for history

The Taylor County Historical Society is taking to the airwaves with the founding a new non-profit, community-oriented radio station.

In the coming months, listeners will be able to tune in to 97.1 WTYC on their FM radio dial to hear about historical events, interviews and presentations.

Programming opportunities will be available for current Historical Society WTYC members and local youth who join after-school programs arranged by teachers in educational programs.

State of Florida history-related programs or documentaries may also be aired.

WTYC also plans to announce public service and safety announcements. There will be a community calendar with events and programs available for people and groups in the community.

“WTYC programming will enhance the Historical Society’s mission and provide new opportunities to Taylor County, its communities, residents and organizations,” WTYC Coordinator Jon Link said.

The initial fundraising goal has been set at $5,000 to cover equipment costs needed to start broadcasting.
