    NOAA predicts above average Atlantic hurricane season with up to 25 storms

    On Aug. 29, 2023, at 5:01 p.m., NOAA’s GOES-16 satellite captured Hurricane Idalia approaching the western coast of Florida while Hurricane Franklin churned in the Atlantic Ocean. Fourteen hours later, Idalia made landfall in Taylor County.

    Nine months after Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Taylor County, leaving behind widespread damage – much of which is still visible to this day – National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasters are predicting above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year.
