Howard Baker King Sr., 82, passed away on Oct. 21, 2024, in Tallahassee. He was born on Feb. 4, 1942, to Lee Roy and Lessie Delmar (Wilder) King in Perry, where he spent his entire life. He is survived by: his wife of 53 years, Charlotte King; three children, Victoria Edwards (Johnny), Theresa Bratcher and Baker King Jr. (Amy); eight grandchildren, Jessica Sousa (Rhett), Josh Sands (Kamryn), Justin Sands (Julia), Annabelle Edwards (Erik), Abigail Vaughn (Mathew), Bailey King, Hannah Bratcher and Trey King; a sister, Betty Young (Earl); and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren: Ryder, Tuf, Tate, Tifton, Ramsey, Stihl, Gunner, Penny, Marley, Emmie, Maddie, Callie, Justin and Kingsley. Howard was predeceased by his brother, Joseph King, and his sister, June Putnam. He was the perfect example of hard work and dedication, both in his profession as a logger, as a loving husband and as a father to his three children. He was slow to speak, funny, dedicated to his country, a pillar of support to his loved ones and the most by-the-book sugar cane syrup supervisor/ director since 1974. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery with Pastor Jordan Smith and Jim Radloff officiating. Family will receive friends at Burns Funeral home from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the graveside service.
