Council agrees to buy used garbage truck for $375,000

    Posted on December 18, 2024

After the City of Perry’s two side-loader trucks (above) and a back-up “rear-loading” truck all were down for repairs, City Sanitation workers have recently been forced to use a backhoe and dump truck to collect garbage. In response, the city council voted 5-0 to purchase a slightly-used “demo” truck for $375,000 at its Dec. 10 meeting. “We are having a lot of issues with our garbage trucks staying up and running,” City Streets and Sanitation Supervisor Danielle Ondash said. “We have two side loaders and a rear loader. When one of our side loaders is down, we have to use our rear loader, which takes three of our men (instead of one).”

After hearing that all three of its sanitation trucks are out of service and frequently down for repairs, the Perry City Council voted to spend $375,000 in unbudgeted funds to immediately purchase a used garbage collection truck.
