Billy Ray “B.R” Barnett, 87, of Steinhatchee passed away Jan. 16, 2025.
He was born July 21, 1937, to the late Ervin and Thelma Barnett in Roswell, Ga., but had lived in the Steinhatchee area since 1991, after moving there from Ore City, Texas.
Mr. Barnett worked for several years as an industrial electrician and was previously mayor of Ore City for 12 years. He was a member of Ore City Lodge No. 1364 of the Grand Lodge of Texas Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, a Shriner and the American Legion Post 291 in Steinhatchee.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and a Baptist.
Mr. Barnett is survived by: his wife of 34 years, Christine “Tina” Barnett; his children, Valerie Tillman and spouse, Billy, Tina Summers, Jennifer McKinzie and spouse, Jerry, Chris Barnett and Ray Barnett; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Woody.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Barnett were held Sunday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m., at Waters Memorial Gardens in Steinhatchee with Pastor George Hage officiating.
