    UNF students launch weather balloon for NASA research effort

    UNF students chose Perry as the site for a high-altitude weather balloon launch Saturday because the prevailing winds would bring the helium-filled balloon on a track back towards their campus in Jacksonville. The balloon was reportedly recovered near Lake City after collecting data for NASA’s “Nationwide Ballooning Project” (NBP).

    The University of North Florida’s (UNF) Space Science and Engineering Club launched a six-foot tall high altitude weather balloon from the “old rock building” (former Taylor County Elementary School) campus in Perry on Saturday.
