According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), a single vessel boating accident in the Keaton Beach channel on April 11 was caused by the vessel striking a submerged object, believed to be a broken piece of a channel marker, resulting in both the operator and the occupant being ejected. The driver of the boat has since undergone multiple surgeries for a compound leg fracture.
