    ‘Razorback Fire’ consumes 175+ acres

    Posted on June 25, 2025

One of two Florida Forest Service (FFS) firefighting helicopters dumps a bucket of water on a “hot spot” in an effort to contain the “Razorback Fire,” a large wildfire burning just east of Taylor County in western Lafayette County. The helicopter’s water bucket (also known as a “Bambi bucket”) can hold a maximum of 320 gallons and is used to extinguish flames along the leading edge of the fire to keep it from advancing any further.

Taylor County residents woke up to the smell of smoke and limited visibility on some major roadways Monday, as multiple agencies continued to battle a wildfire sparked by lightning on Sunday near the Taylor County – Lafayette County line.
