    Susan Frances Stephens Whitehead

    Susan Frances Stephens Whitehead, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on June 28, 2025, in Tallahassee. She was born in Perry on April 8, 1947, to Lloyd and Juanita Davis Stephens. Susan grew up with her parents and four younger siblings in Perry, and graduated from high school in 1966. On Dec. 27 of that same year, Susan married her one true love, Joe Whitehead. After a brief move to New York, they settled down in Carbur, where Susan was a devoted wife and mother to their three daughters. She was a Baptist and member of Athena Baptist Church. In 1984, Susan became a volunteer at Taylor County High School, where she made many friends and loved her work until her last day there in 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Whitehead; her parents, Lloyd and Juanita Stephens; her brother, Donald Stephens; and a great-grandchild, Alexander Trujillo. Susan is survived by: her sister, Teresa Sadler; her brothers, Larry and Robert (Tracy) Stephens; her daughter, Lena “Lea” and her husband, Daniel Trujillo, Rebecca “Becky’ and her husband, Wayne Wilbur, and Joleen Whitehead; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home in Perry with Pastor David McMullen officiating. Interment services will follow in New Hope Cemetery.
