Elaine (Peacock) Herrington, 81, of Perry was born Sept. 2, 1942, and entered into eternal rest on July 17, 2025 after a prolonged illness. Her husband of nearly 60 years, Jim, was at home by her side. She was preceded in death by: her parents, W.H. Sr. and Marina Peacock; her brother, W.H. (Bud) Peacock Jr.; and her sisters, Betty Ann (Hughes) of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Ada Alice (Wells) of Tallahassee. She is survived by: her husband, Jim Herrington of Perry; her sister, Sharon (Scott) of Dallas, Texas; her three daughters, Mariann (Moore) of Bowling Green, Ky., Pam (Newton) of Raceland, Ky., and Avery (Copeland) of Perry; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Elaine held a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in mathematics from Florida State University and a master’s of secondary education in mathematics from the University of Kentucky. After moving several times in their early marriage, Jim and Elaine settled in Lexington, Ky., for 15 years before returning to Perry in 1989, where they’ve lived since then. Elaine was a homemaker for many years, and taught and tutored secondary mathematics to hundreds of children. She also taught preschool Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Perry, where she was a dedicated member. She was an avid member of the Taylor County Historical Society and loved researching genealogies and local history. She had a passion for remembering and recording what would otherwise be forgotten. Her infectious joy and perseverance were an inspiration to all who knew her, and her faith in Christ underwrote everything she did. Although her physical presence will be missed, her spirit lives on and we look forward to seeing her again in Glory. A celebration of life was held Monday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family received visitors one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Big Bend Hospice. Friends may sign the online guest book at joepburnsfuneralhomes. com.
